The Gregory Family
« on: Tuesday 08 August 17 10:02 BST (UK) »
Hi, I've got a Charles Gregory, born around; 1877, Sheffield, Yorkshire. I've got him in the; 1911 Census, and i've found his marriage to; Hannah Hipkins in; 1901, Sheffield, Yorkshire. But i'm having trouble going backwards. On the marriage record, it says his Dad was also called; Charles, and that he was a; Forger. I'm finding it really tricky to narrow it down. I hope someone can help me, as I would love to go further back with the Gregory name? Thanks, Carly

Rosie's family most likely.

The Charles F Gregory son of Charles gregory is married to a woman called martha in 1911.
The other Charles F Gregory is illegitimate.

The other charles gregorys born around the time/place don't seem to have father's called charles apart from the one whose father was colliery manager and seems unlikely to have been metalworker.

Looks like the father is-

Looks good to me!

One of the witnesses was Jessie GREGORY. (sister?)

Charles' address was given as 44 Summerfield Street. On the 1901 it's the residence of Albert and Ellen GLEDHILL (nee GREGORY). With them is a 14 year old niece,Mary GREGORY. So fits with known family from the 1891.
