How to upload a home movie dvd to laptop.
« on: Tuesday 08 August 17 17:47 BST (UK) »
I have several mini discs from a Handycam that i would like to copy for a family member.

Have managed to do this a couple of times in the past but my aging brain has forgotten HOW  ::)

I have done the usual 'Google' but find the people on Rootschat easier to understand.

I know you have to upload them first onto the p.c and then download onto an empty disc but my brain has gone awol !!

Pretty sure that before my p.c was reconfigured after it crashed that it held a programme that enabled me to do this.

Anyone ?????  poli

Yes you would need the appropriate software, something such as iMovie for Mac or whatever is available for Windows, there used to be a free movie editing software called Live Motion i think.  Maybe its still available.  Then all you have to do is load the cam footage onto your computer using the editing software and follow the prompts really.  Once edited you can burn onto your disk.

I've used Freemake Video Converter (free) in the past. I found it easy to use. You can convert to AVI or MP4.
You can then commit it to disc or leave as a file to watch on your PC or both.

Hi Poli

What's the make of cam?

Maybe the manufacturer has something?

Some windows releases (XP, Vista, 7..?) have free programmes with names like "...Movie Maker....".   If you have the correct cable to connect camera to PC then these will produce an MP4 or AVI file on the PC which can then be burnt to DVD.

Drop the minidisk into the smaller depression on your cd/dvd player in your computer.
Use a program such as Real player (free download) to view or burn to cd/dvd.
