Gordon families from Perthsire
« on: Tuesday 08 August 17 20:38 BST (UK) »
We are needing help with two branches of the Gordon families of Carrick (Carrig) in Glen Fincastle, Perthshire.

a) Canadian descendants of Donald Gordon and Christian McLaren, Brudenell Pioneers (PEI)

b) Canadian descendants of Rev. Donald (Daniel) Gordon and Mary Robertson, in Zorra, Oxford Co. Ontario.  Father of Rev Charles William Gordon (the author Ralph Connor)

We have a lot of data on the Scottish side, but want to get the Canadian side correct before adding it to the Borenich web-site.

The task you ask is rather a large one, for us to trace every child and family but by googling and looking at the free Canadian Census this will help you and you will be able to find alot of information out -  tracing these families forward - we obviously cannot name living people on here but with the help of some obituaries and http://www.canada411.ca/ you may be able to trace living relatives.

You have probably seen this, but his (Rev. Charles Gordon) biography says what fields his brothers pursued. http://umanitoba.ca/libraries/units/archives/collections/complete_holdings/ead/html/gordon.shtml#tag_bioghist

I didn't poke around much there, lots of links, including one to his photographs, but looks like you need to ask a librarian there to see it?

Alison Gordon - daughter of John King Gordon -  was a Canadian journalist and mystery novelist.
Alison Gordon was born in New York City where her journalist/diplomat father, J. King Gordon, worked (and later served with the United Nations). His work resulted in her living not only in New York, but also Tokyo, Cairo, and Rome.

Alison Gordon died in the Toronto East General Hospital on February 12, 2015, at the age of 72 years

Obituary gives names of relatives - http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/thestar/obituary.aspx?pid=174150669

Alison came from a writing family. Her paternal grandfather was a best-selling Canadian novelist under the pen name of Ralph Connor. Her maternal grandfather, Isaac Anderson, reviewed mystery novels for the New York Times. Her mother, Ruth Gordon, worked in publishing as an editor and her father was at one time managing editor of The Nation magazine. Her older brother, Charles, became a newspaper columnist. But Alison's writing career didn't begin in earnest until her mid-30s when, as a freelance writer, she earned a National Magazine Award for humour writing in 1978. She joined the Toronto Star in 1979 to cover the Toronto Blue Jays, the first woman beat writer.
