1881 Census - Thomas Mallinson
« on: Wednesday 09 August 17 17:54 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to find a Thomas Mallinson in the 1881 census.

Here's what I know. He was born 1857 in Gawber, near Barnsley, though in most census records his birthplace tended to just be listed as Barnsley. Also his given age seemed to fluctuate quite a bit.

He's in the 1861 and 1871 census living with his family.

Most importantly, he was in the Coldstream Guards between 1878 and 1884 (I have his service records to confirm this). From what I understand, this means he should have been stationed at Wellington barracks in London in 1881, but I've not been able to trace him there either.

He did serve in the Egypt conflict of 1882. I know it's over a year later but could he possibly have been overseas before then? Just a thought.

In 1891 he reappears in Barnsley, newly married.

Thanks in advance for any help.
