Anyone familiar with German?
« on: Thursday 10 August 17 05:37 BST (UK) »
Is anyone familiar with German language and baptismal records?

I believe this is the baptism record of my 3rd great grandfather in Germany, in the year 1814.

Would great appreciate a translation. :)

Thanks-

Nick

I could ask  my wife Ilse who is from Berlin, but am a bit doubtful she could read this.   'geb' is short for geboren - born.    We have a few German certificates but they are mostly marriages and deaths and only go back to about the 1860's.

Hi Nick,

This link might help.... the example is not as old as your record, but good explanation, with a link to the common words used on old certificates.

Ah, thank you very much you guys. This has been helpful. I know I've seen his godfather in an Ahnentafel someone else made on another site for another branch of the Vogel family. I may have been able to connect them though. I appreciate it.
