Thanks for that AVM I hadn't managed to find it for some reason.

Margaret married Thomas Williams on 6th November 1876 and she says John her father was a porter. John was also a witness on the register. They only had one son Thomas. They lived next to John and Mary Ann for many years.

When they moved to Irk Street Margaret says she's a florist. Frederick Aubrey her uncle lodged with them and when he died he left all his money to Margaret.

I've spent all day looking for John on earlier censuses and I agree with Milliepede that there's a strong possibility that he's changed his name for some reason. There's no record of a John Charles White born circa 1832 in Winchester on any censuses before 1871. We've all come across people missing off censuses for a variety of reasons but not 3 censuses and no birth record so the only other reason is that he's changed his name.

Aaargh!!! I don't know where to look next.  :'(
