Which Pub?
« on: Thursday 10 August 17 14:40 BST (UK) »
Hello I don't know if anyone can help, my G G Grandfather William Walker was a Victualler in Lanarkshire around 1860's 1870's. I wondering how I could go about finding out the name of his pub. I've looked in trade directories and found a possible William Walker in Port Dundas Road but I can't be sure it's him. Thankyou for any help anyone be able to give me.

Have you found him in the 1861 or 1871 census?
He was probably living at the pub.

Ichehedan,  excellent site here,

Most Glasgow pubs were/are in tenemented property, very unlikely for a landlord to be living on the premises.

Skoosh.

The census is a snapshot of people taken on a single night, every 10 years.

Maybe, just maybe, he changed jobs to become a LV after one census, but changed again before the next census? ;D

He could have been a "Victualler and Grocer" - it was not unusual for Victuallers, Beer Sellers etc, to have a second occupation. I have seen several with the occupation of "Victualler and Farmer".  :)

Hello Thankyou for all your replies.
I was actually thinking of a sort of off license.
My posts make it sound like i'm really angry with them. I'm not really it's just that I have been looking for my mums gran for years as Elizabeth Ford and finally found her (thanks to help from the very kind people on here) under the name Walker!
Thanks again for your replies.
Kind regards Louise
