Gilbert Street ? ** COMPLETED **
« on: Thursday 10 August 17 16:12 BST (UK) »
Am I reading this right as Gilbert Street, St Anne (Limehouse)  ???  I'm trying to track it down on maps of the time.  There was a Gilbert Wharf, off Narrow Street but no little lane/street running to it.  There was also a Gill Street which is making me doubt what I've transcribed.  I've managed to easily find Edward Street also mentioned two lines above it but this one is evading me  :-\

Those may be fillers at the end of the line.

Gill Street is shown in Limehouse, centre of the map-square, behind St Anne's church, running north/south between Gun Lane and Commercial Road ...

The 1851 census street index for Stepney shows no other street-name beginning Gil... What date is the will?

Yup, "fillers" was my suspicion, I went through this will some time ago but hadn't put all the streets on the map. Will was written 1850 and as you've found I can't see "Gil"-anything else at all in Limehouse. I think GILL STREET is the right answer that I suspected. Pin can be stuck in map now :)
