Dorset Family History Society's Monthly Meeting Talk by Alec Tritton
« on: Thursday 10 August 17 20:43 BST (UK) »

Alec Tritton will be giving an interesting and informative talk entitled 'Death and Resurrection - The Body Snatchers'.

Students at Anatomical Schools required bodies for their medical studies. The only legitimate source was hanged felons, but these were not enough and so a trade began in body snatching, probably the most famous 'snatchers' being Burke and Hare. Where did these bodies come from? How were they transported? What was the price for a body and where did they end up afterwards? A grisly business explained in the years before the advent of Civil registration.

Alec Tritton has been a family historian for over 35 years. A former chairman of the Federation of Family History Societies and the Guild of One-Name Studies, he has lectured extensively in England and presented regularly at 'Who Do You Think You Are-Live'.
