What Happened to Ann Baker?
« on: Friday 11 August 17 08:59 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have a mystery that I'm unable to solve.  I'm not sure if buying a certificate will help me.

William Baker(my 4 x great grandfather) born Derby 1767 was a Silk Man (Silk Agent in 1841 and 1851).  He married his wife Ann Mowry (another mystery but for another day..) in St Sepulchre London in November 1813 and they had four children, the eldest being Ann, born, intriguingly, in 1810.

By 1841, William and his eldest daughter were in Kings Place, Nottingham.  No sign of his wife.  His second daughter, Mary Ann and third daughter Hannah were married in London and his son George was also in London.  I can't find a death for his wife.

William died in Nottingham in 1859 just before Christmas and his death is noted in the Nottingham press.  He was 91.
In October 1860, his daughter Ann, now aged 50, married William Bradley at St. Mary Nottingham. This was also noted in the local press.

After that, they disappear.  I can't find them in the 1861 census or after that.  I can't find a death for Ann in Nottingham or London.  I've no idea how old William Bradley was.

A marriage certificate would tell me his occupation and age but I'm not sure whether that will help.

What could have happened to them?

Any ideas?

Brilliant!

I've found them in the 1861.  He's older than her at 71 and it shows no occupation.  I can't read hers.

1871 RG10; Piece: 3519; Folio: 58; Page: 42; has a 59 yr old Ann Tomlin widow lace silk winder lodging in St Mary's parish. I can't read the 1861 occupation either....

The William Tomlin, gentleman, that lived in Belvoir Hill, Sneinton & died in 1880 left a will, less than £25000, executors Eliza Ann Tomlin spinster daughter & Alfred Tomlin gentleman son

Thank you.

The GRO has William Tomlin's death in Q4 1865 aged 75 so I expect that's him.

Currently looking for Ann's death.
