Living family of the late Gordon Highlander, John Anderson
« on: Friday 11 August 17 09:49 BST (UK) »
Gordon Highlander Private John Anderson was killed on April 28, 1915 whilst fighting in the trenches in Vlamertinghe area of West Ypres in Belgium.

His final resting place was unknown but, through research undertaken by the MOD’s Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre, clear and convincing evidence has been presented that he was buried soon after his death at Birr Cross Roads Cemetery in Ypres.

Now the JCCC is seeking members of his family or anyone who knew him to get in touch so they can be invited to attend a rededication of his grave to be held later this year.
If you are related or indeed know of the family, contact Sue Raftree on 01452 712612 extension 6303 or email her on: DBS-JCCCCommem1SO3@mod.uk

Hi Monica, had a look at the tree, and as I have the certs for the family, I can say that the tree on the link you gave is not quite accurate.

Thanks anyway.

According to Soldiers died in the Great War database on Ancestry,  John died on 28th May 1915 ( not 28th April).

The tree posted by Monica appears to combine details from two different families, both with parents James and Annie. The James and Annie in the tree were born in Morayshire and were living in Burghhead, Moray in 1901 with three children. Some of the children attributed to them in the tree appear to actually be the children of the Aberdeenshire James Anderson and Annie Cumming, so some of the information ( e.g. Re the James who died in Abbotsford BC) might be relevant and worth pursuing.

Isobel, the first 3 paragraphs in the first post are from the military, (Ministry of Defence's Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre) and not directly from me.

The Register of Soldiers Effects, which names his mother Annie as sole legatee, also says 28th May 1915, so that looks like the correct date.
