Cleopatra in Norfolk?
« on: Friday 11 August 17 12:12 BST (UK) »
Kate Cleopatra Hodds was born in 1877 in Caister, to George Benjamin Hodds and Susan Hodds (nee Goodings).

Cleopatra seems an unusual name for the time, and I was wondering if anyone has any theory as to why she was given this name.

If you do a search on freeBMD you'll see that Cleopatra was used fairly frequently as a christian name..
I expect her parents just liked the sound of it.

Google 'Cleopatra's needle' london.
It evidently was transported to England in " October 1877". No doubt big news at the time.

That is true, they probably did just like the sound of it, I just wondered what had inspired them. That is interesting, thank you Goldie61! I had heard of Cleopatra's needle but I didn't know about the date connection, thank you for finding this out.

Apologies for the late reply, for some reason I didn't get an email alert to say people had posted on the thread
