1854 Ely Cottages
« on: Friday 11 August 17 21:29 BST (UK) »

I have a death certificate 28th Sept 1854 and the address of death and informant is :- 2 Ely Cottages, St. Georges Row.
Registration District is St. George's Hanover Square.
Death in the Sub district of Belgrave in the County of Middx.
I know the deceased is a descendant of mine and I am sure the informant was his daughter but I cannot find them on the 1851 census.
The deceased was Moses Edwards (Chelsea Pensioner) possibly living out.
The informant was Mary Rogers present at death. ( it is her I need info on)
Can anyone help with this please?
Many thanks
Barbara

There is this one living at 37 Queen Street, Chelsea albeit a little young for yours.

Moses Edwards Age: 72
Estimated birth year: abt 1779
Spouse's Name: Anne Edwards

Where born: Warwickshire, England

However he is recorded as a labourer and blind
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Thanks for that it is him in 1851 and he is a "blind living out pensioner"
I am trying to find out more info on his daughter Mary, I know she was born in Bucks and married a
William Rogers, they obviously moved into the Chelsea areas sometime before 1841 along with several of the Edwards and it appears William and Mary didn't have any children.
Also would like to know if Ely Cottages had anything to do with the Royal Hospital.

A possible 1851 in Stevenage

Mary Ann Rogers 31 Head born Olney, Bucks
Emily Rogers 23  sister
William Moulden  30 lodger

Only problem it says this Mary is unmarried. Did your Mary have a sister Emily

Do you know when Mary married William

I see from the 1871 that Mary Ann is called a nurse and William is born c1808 Bedfordshire and is a labourer
Thank you.

What address is given for them in 1871 please.
No she didn't have a sister Emily.
She married in Bucks and I will have to check tomorrow.
Lots of Edwards moved from Bucks sometime before 1841. They are in Paradise Row and Queens Street. Also married into the Goodes, Gusterton and Lewis families

That 1851 census I don't think is them now.

The marriage to William was 27 Apr 1835 • St Peter and St Paul's Church, Buckinghamshire, England

In 1871 Mary and William are at 1 Leader street, Chelsea (now Ixworth place)
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham.
