R. Cundy and Sons, Stoke, Devenport Plymouth
« on: Saturday 12 August 17 12:31 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am doing some research on behalf of my cousin into milk delivery firm R. Cundy and Sons, Trafalgar Dairies Stoke, Devenport Plymouth.  I have found an advertisement in the Western Morning News dated 16th June 1941 stating that they have been established for over 100 years.  There are other adverts in the paper over the years looking for employees to join them.

I was wondering if anyone has any local knowledge of this firm, the name of the person running it, where is was situated and when it ceased to trade.

I have done some trawling on the internet but have found very little other than the adverts in the newspaper.

Thank you

Hi Suzard,

Thank you so much for the information.  Near to where my cousin lives a milk retailer has been given two bottles with the name of R Cundy, Stoke Devenport on them.  He was interested in the orignis of this firm and has drawn a blank so my cousin asked me if I could help as I always like a challenge.   ;D

so all was left to his children
maybe the children carried on the farm after then
son Richard george Cundy of 7 St Margarets Rd Marsh Mills Plympton died 30 Dec 1948 at Charlotte Nursing Home Plymouth Probate to William Peter Cundy farmer & Herbert james Wilmott Ruse solicitor Effects £7312 3s 8d

Richard Chapple Cundy's father was a dairy farmer at Fore St Devonport in mid 1800's

daughter Bessie Helena Cundy married Charles Richard Tregillus in 1913 - he was the son of a corn merchant  at Highlands Horrabridge Devon and probably took over the business from his father -as he died at that address in 1952 Effects £250 8s 6d

Can't resist a little delving!! It seems R Cundy and sons are still trading but not as dairy farmers
the executor of Richard george Cundy's will was William Peter Cundy occ farmer - so I assumed this was Richard george's son -wrong - as far as I can find Richard george Cundy never married - William Peter Cundy was the son of henry Francis Cundy -so he was Richard George's nephew
IHenry Francis Cundy married Olive C Soper 1914 in Plymouth. and William Peter Cundy was their son b 1915

there is a firm R Cundy & sons (farms) Ltd who according to company records grow cereals & other crops
There are several dates for directors (mainly Cundy surname) and one of the directors was William Peter Cundy born 1915 was a director until 2008
address of company is Little Woodford Larkham Lane Plymouth
