Latin Act Book entry June 1602
« on: Sunday 13 August 17 07:05 BST (UK) »
I can make out Richard Goolde, parish of Leek, and his wife Ellen Goulde, but that's about it!
Any help gratefully received.
There seems to be an added bit in the margin in 1605 too?
Many thanks

Apud Lich’ decimo sexto die Junij Anno d(omi)ni 1602
Com(m)issa fuit admi(ni)strac(i)o bonoru(m) Richardi Goolde p(ar)och(ie) de Leeke defunct(i)
Ellenae Goulde eius relict(e) iurat(e) coram M(agist)ro Rogero Banne
vicario ib(ide)m etc.

(margin) Inventar(ium) exhibit(um) Lich’
5 die Julij 1605 (...)

At Lichfield on the sixteenth day of June in the year of the Lord 1602
Administration of the goods of Richard Goolde of the parish of Leek, deceased, was granted to Ellen Goulde, his relict, sworn before Master Roger Banne, vicar in that place etc.
(margin) Inventory presented at Lichfield on the 5th day of July 1605 (...)

The value (or threshold limit?) of the inventory may be written after the date – hard to read because of interference from the h of Lich’ in the line above. The inventory appears to be online, apparently drawn up in 1602 but not entered until 1605?

Many thanks Bookbox.

I had seen the Inventory on findmypast and it was difficult to tell if it was the same person - I think it's too co-incidental to not be the same man, although the Inventory gives him as of 'Leekfrith', which is a slightly different pace than Leek itself. Unfortunately the Inventory has a huge smudge at the bottom! - where I think I can just make out something beginning with "E' - possibly Ellen I guess.

Thanks again.

I think that smudge at the end of the inventory is actually a deleted presentation clause, beginning Ex(hibi)tu(m) Lich', with a date in July 1602. It may have been deleted if for some reason the inventory wasn't submitted until later.

So the value given in the administration might be (under) 10 pounds ? Just trying to make it fit ;)
