Details in the Will of John Dence
« on: Sunday 13 August 17 22:22 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am hoping someone can help me with some extracts from the 1618 Will of John Dence of Wye.

In the first image I'm trying to work out the names in the third line from the bottom where it says "my son in lawe". I'm pretty sure the first name is William but I am not sure about the surname.

In the second extract I want to confirm the name that appears in the middle of the extract where it says 'their sister....'. I think it is Phillippa Dence although it looks like Philip (I know there is a Philippa Dence in the Dence tree I am researching).

If anyone can help with these it will be great.

Many thanks

Matt

I can definitely see 'Phillipp Dence' in the second extract. No 'a' at the end. But as it definitely says 'sister'............... Often a 'p' could stand for 'per', or 'pro' and other contractions at the beginning of words, not sure it would be likely to be standing for 'pa' here though.

The son-in-law is more difficult.
I first thought C, but this is not how "C" was written - you can see 'C" and then 'h' at the start of 'Child' a few lines above.
I expect you have the '....seman' at the end. Possibly a 'w' before the 's'.
Hopefully someone can make out the beginning!  :)
