My first thought was Dustman -- but were they called that back then?

What does it say on the census records?

They used to collect ashes from large houses at one time. I think that's where Dust cart comes from?
In fact I believe they used to pay for the ashes and use them in the tanning process?

I either saw this on TV or when I was on one of my flights of fancy!
