Bumstead Moore of Ousden c1806-09
« on: Wednesday 16 August 17 22:42 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Another quick request for info.

This chap was a miller in Ousden between 1806 and 1809 (when he died).  Who was he married to and where did he come from?

His son took over the business but was killed by the mill in 1819.  Was he married?

Any help would be great!

"Same day (Sunday se'nnight) died Mr. Bumpstead Moore, miller, of Ousden, who has left a widow and 10 children to lament the loss of an affectionate husband and tender father. "

The son who was killed in 1819 was Benjamin Moore (per Suffolk newspaper reports on inquest held 2 April). Aged 17 per the burial record.

Sorry for the confusion.  Father was Bumstead Moore & son Benjamin.  I wrote the post and then hit the pit followed by a long day at the office.!

Thanks for ALL the info.  I did not realise that Benjamin was only 17 at the time of his death.  Mary Offord seems to have come from a good milling family as there were plenty of them in the Suffolk milling trade.

I suspect that Bumstead Moore was related (on mother's side?) to the notorious Bumpstead milling family of north Suffolk.

Once again, thanks.
