South Shields Workhouse
« on: Thursday 17 August 17 11:31 BST (UK) »
Hi, hope I'm in the right place. I'm looking for information about the South Shields union workhouse in harton in 1891. My great grandfather is listed as a scholar and I wondered how that worked.
Kind regards,
Lynne

Hi Lynne

Split topic and moved to Durham for hopes of a better response.

Hello Lynne

See this site for good background
http://www.workhouses.org.uk/SouthShields/

The description of scholar just meant he was attending school.

Hope this helps.
