Bit of a puzzle (links to the thread Finding Scally's Cottages).
I'm trying to establish whether the Groom of 1868 was my Great-grandfather Richard Donohue who appears aged 60 on the 1901 census at 2 Scally's Cottages (as Donough).
In brief:
22 April 1856 Richard Donohoe married Annie Keane in Dublin. They had children until at least 1864 (Catherine, born 25 Dec. '64).
In 1866, per Glasnevin grave records, an Anne Donohue, aged 30, of Terrace Place died. I suspect this is Richard's wife, Annie Keane.
On 21 June 1868, Richard Donohue, widower, of 9 Terrace Place, married Mary Monahan in Kingstown. Richard had the same mother & father names as the Richard of the 1856 marriage.
Their daughter, Marcella, was born 26 May 1869 - 9 Terrace Place.
Then, between 1872 and 1894, I find six births (& there could be more) registered in North Dublin to Richard Donohue and CATHERINE Monahan (04.08.72 John, 8 Eglinton Lane; 28.09.74 Jacob, 10 Eglinton Lane; 03.02.77 Mary, 13 Eglinton Lane; 12.09.79 Unknown, 13 Eccles? Place; 04.04.90 Ellen, 49 Up Charles Lane; & 03.03.94 Richard, 12 Upr Tyrone St).
The dates of the first named, John & the last named, Richard, tie in with two of Richard Donohue's children with him on the 1901 census.
More doubt is thrown in by the fact that on 7 Jan 1872 a Richard Donohoe of 9 Terrace Place died. He was stated to be married (not widowed) & aged 40. There was an inquest, but I have no detail. I'm guessing that he was a relative, as at the wedding of Catherine Donohue, daughter of Richard Donohue & Annie Keane, in July 1885, the civil cert states that her father was 'living'.
A probable red herring - On 7 July 1891, a Mary Monahan of 2? Tyrone St died aged 43 (married).
My Questions (for my family tree):-
When did Richard Donohue of 2 Scally's Cottages on the 1901 census die?
Who was his wife & when did she die?
The well respected dathai of this site believes that Mary & Catherine Monahan were the same person & I now think he's correct.
Any views?
