women's air force Biggin Hill
« on: Thursday 17 August 17 22:25 BST (UK) »
Hello, My grandmother past before her second husband is some what a mystery.
She had a daughter which I thought was out wedlock but today found out from a old source he thinks she had a proxy wedding.

Any way Apprantly my grandmother born Violet Isabel Taylor on November 1t 1919 in Wandsworth London. Was in the Womans Air Force and stationed at Biggin Hill.

I remember as a child seeing a photo of her in a army type uniform but that's it.
The older source said she remembered my grandmother having a whole suitcase of news paper clipping ext of her and the above.

No idea what happened to them, and I have tried all sorts of searches and nothing.

I also found out that her daughter, was adopted by her second husband.
Her daughter is not so mindful these days, but swears her birth name and date of birth and place of birth are correct. There are more army questions ahead, just trying to fill the whole picture.

Her daughter was born Patricia  1940's • Edinburgh, Scotland.

But I can't find anything. This also brings me to what Violet was doing there? Something to do with the above?

Its a tricky one this, I pay for ancestry and I am coming up with nothing, I have tried google searches, some dedicated web pages.

The father to Patricia I have been given two names  ??? and that he was American and also something army, how he met Violet.

Any help idea's welcome. Would love to find anything at all.

Thank you.

Scotlands People has the birth so why not buy a copy of the 1940's birth cert to see what info it provides

It was called the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF).  Would that help in the search?

I think they moved people around just as much as the army did.  My Mum, of about the same vintage, was a cipher operator and spent part of the war years at the Air Ministry in London, part at Biggin Hill, but also several other Air Force bases.  Too late to ask her, I'm afraid.

The WAAF was not army - she wore a military uniform, it would have been airforce blue.

All service records after 1920 are still with MOD and not online.

It costs £30 to get the records and there may be a long wait. Heres's the link to help you.

Hope this helps
