John Shepard Aitcheson of Connecticut/Massachusetts.
« on: Friday 18 August 17 11:54 BST (UK) »
I am looking to get in touch with any descendents of John Shepard Aitcheson, who was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1837. His parents were Samuel Aitcheson and Grace McCubbin who were from Stranraer, Scotland.

He was a soldier with the 27th Massachusetts Volunteers during the Civil War. He married Mina Brigham in Chicopee, Mass. in 1860. He died in New York in 1872.

He had at least two children, Thomas Brigham Aitcheson (1865-1939) and Grace Bamford Aitcheson (1870-1933).

I am a descendent of John S Aitcheson's Uncle, Alexander. Our family line stayed in Scotland and the name eventually became Hutcheson.
Gr-Gr-Gr Grandparents and relevant areas: MacDonald (Skye/Renfrewshire/Glasgow), Johnstone (Inverness/Ayr/Glasgow), MacPherson (Ross/Glasgow), Irvine (Ireland/Glasgow), Berrie (Dunkeld/Glasgow), Biggar (Paisley/Glasgow), Bradley (Ireland/Glasgow), McCorkindale (Argyll/Glasgow), Hardie (Ireland/Greenock), Scott (Greenock) , Kane (Ireland), Maguire (Ireland), McLarty (Argyll/Greenock), McLean (Argyll/Greenock), Petrie (Fife/Dundee/Greenock), Graham (Argyll/Greenock).

Hi

1. You should search the census lists and all other documents of Thomas and Grace.
2. Then you could search the same documents about their children and grandchildren.
3. Then you could search their entry at findagrave or their obituaries in the newspapers.
4. Obituaries often mention all children and siblings of the deceased person,
often with the names of wifes/husbands and the place where they lived.

For census lists and other documents look at familysearch.
For newspapers of New York look at Fulton History.

Regards
Svenja
