Park family - link to Greenock
« on: Friday 18 August 17 13:45 BST (UK) »
Hello - trying to help my friend find out more about her father and his family.  Very little info. to go on but hope someone may be able to help.  Father: John Anthony (Glover) Park born 1921 in Dollar died in 1999 Durban S.A.  Grandfather John Anthony Glover Park 1876 - 1924.  Once the Harbour Master of Greenock.  Both father and grandfather sea captains (RN? or MN?).  Grandmother Annie Hamilton 1878 - 1968 - had a sister Joanne (probably other siblings too).
This is the only info. I have so would be grateful if someone could offer some assistance or advice.
Many thanks.
Regards
Sue

Have you looked for them on any of the censuses?

Have you looked for their marriage on Scotlands People  - it will give you both their parents names

Hi Sue

Father: John Anthony (Glover) Park born 1921 in Dollar died in 1999 Durban S.A.

Are you sure the birth was in Dollar, Clackmannanshire? There is a birth for a John Anthony in 1921 in Old or West Kilpatrick - ref. 501/ 172.  Mention of a WW2 service medal for him here http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D4352715  Exact birth date will let you confirm it is him hopefully.

As Carole mentions, you can view the image of the marriage online for John Park and Ann L Hamilton in 1921 in Blythswood, Glasgow. You can view the marriage certificate online as it is within the period it can still be viewed.

I can't easily see a death for John Park Snr in 1924. Did he die at sea or away from Scotland?

As you mentioned, a death for Ann Hamilton Park in 1968. Is this the correct entry?:

Annie Hamilton Park, aged 88, died in 1968 in Lochgelly, Fife. Also registered under the surname of Peters.

Another marriage entry for you to consider which fits better with the names you mentioned:

An Anthony Glover Park married a Annie Hamilton Peters in 1919 in Cathcart, Lanark.

Maybe a first marriage for Anthony Glover Park in 1913? There is a marriage for a person with this name to a Jane Michell Napier in Montrose, Angus. Possible death for her in 1917, aged 37 in Hillhead, Glasgow area.

There is a death for a Anthony Glover Park in 1927, aged 47 in Old or West Kilpatrick ref. 501/ 157. This is where we had the 1921 birth for a John Anthony Glover Park. You can view the image for this death on Scotlands People. This should let you confirm full details to be able to match to a marriage/s and birth.

Possible birth entry for Anthony Glover Park in 1880 in England https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2XJF-97X and a further possible in the 1881 census for him https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q27L-VXSF

1891 has some of the children in Glasgow at 19 Kensington Terrace, Plantation/Govan:

Walter Park 17
James Park 12
Anthony Park 11
Jane Park 8

They shows as children to a Robert Summers on the transcription I am looking at so something has gone awry there...The original image on SP will hopefully help you get the correct details there.

Annie Hamilton Peters, there is a birth entry on Scotlands People in Beith, Ayrshire in 1880. A John Wilson Peters married a Maggie Stevenson in 1879 in Beith. Possible 1881 census entry in Glasgow:

Margaret Peters    25 b. Glasgow
Annie Hamilton Peters 4 Months b. Beith, Ayr

Address: 380 Rutherglen Road, Glasgow/ Hutchesontown

1891 - all the children showing as born in Beith:

Maggie Peters 35 b. Glasgow
Annie Peters 10
Robert Peters 9
Jeanna Peters 7
Julia Peters 5
John R Peters 3

Address: Muirpark Buildings, Beith Ayrshire

In 1901, Annie is visiting in Glasgow and occupied as a lady clerkess.
