Any good software around that can show a family tree in 3d?
« on: Friday 18 August 17 14:02 BST (UK) »
Anyone know of any good software that can visualise a family tree in 3d?

I am thinking of something (if it exists) that could show depth instead of being flat and also be capable of being moved around and through to show different levels.

What do you recommend?

There used to be a program called Heredis Family Tree (I think) but I seem to remember the later versions only ran on Apple computers. I found the 3D display could get very confusing with large numbers of people. I don't know of any others.

Progeny genealogy (https://progenygenealogy.com/Products/3D-Family-Tree) says it has one. There's a video demo om the site. I have no idea whether it's any good. Maybe there's a trial version.

I am also thinking about software that scientists use to model molecular structures. It would be interesting to get a hold of something like that and see if it could be modified for genealogy purposes...hmmm

I have just started using Mac Family Tree version 8.
That has a three dimensional virtual chart on it. They have a demo to try.
