Hey, I got interrupted posting.
Then tried to let you know that it had (more) content.
Trying to save you time/effort duplicating research already carried out by someone else (not me) 4 years ago on behalf of NenePops.

I don't help out in order to score points.

There is a Frederick Henry Coppard, born Tunbridge Wells c1883, who served in WW1 in the Australian forces, having volunteered at Perth, WA in 1915 (discharged 1918).

Claims to be unmarried. Next of kin is mother Eliza Coppard (widow), of Bromley, Kent.

Could this be your Frederick, having separated from Ethel?

His likely baptism is 1883 at Speldhurst, parents William and Eliza.

If he's the right Frederick and was estranged from Ethel (or even had abandoned her and done a bunk to Australia) it is perhaps not that surprising he would claim to be unmarried so that he wasn't asked for a wife's details as next of kin.

Do you have the marriage certificate for Ethel and Frederick, and if so what does it say about his age and his father's details?

Fast forward a few years and FH Coppard, 39,  sails from Fremantle on the Beltana, arriving at London on 21 April 1921.  Intended future permanent residence: England.  Interestingly his stated occupation is now viticulture.

It looks as though he subsequently married Ellen Kathleen Barber in 1924 and had a new family with her, eventually dying in Bexley in 1968 aged 85.

What is a viticulture? Strange as Ethel had two more children Horace and then Irene????
