The TILLEY family, Braceborough
« on: Saturday 19 August 17 14:22 BST (UK) »
I have seen records of two members of the TILLEY family who lived in Braceborough over several generations as follows:

John TILLEY born 1685; died Braceborough October 31st 1749
John TILLEY born 1715; died Braceborough October 22nd 1772

Are there any records to suggest either or both men were born in the village or locally? I realise that there are Tilley families all over the country but wondered if this particular lot had "immigrated" from elsewhere.

Many thanks - Alan

The first link states that John Tilley lived in Knossington, which is not in the Langtons.
The actual record gives the abode as East Langton.

Interestingly, there is a baptism on 15th May 1689 for a John Tilly of East Langton, but no parents listed. There is also an Ann Tilly in 1683 but, again, no parents.

A John Tilley married Elizabeth Scampton in East Langton on 13th October 1714.

East Langton is approximately 35 miles from Braceborough.

David

P.S. A John Tilly of East Langton was buried on 8th February 1730

I guess what the two familysearch links really proves is how widespread the Tilley famil(y)ies really are.

Yes - I was wondering whether this Tilley family was associated with my own which originated around Kibworth / Smeeton Westerby in Leicestershire in the early 17th century and for several generations lived in the Langtons.

I do therefore have John Tilley who married  Sarah Scampton. They had five children (4 sons; 1 daughter) and he died in 1747

John Tilley, their eldest son (born 1715) died in 1796.

So, no further forward with the Braceborough lot

Many thanks

Alan

Alan, is this still anything you need help with?  I'm a Tilley and the Braceborough line are my direct ancestors.  Steve.

Welcome to Rootschat, Steve

Still interested in the Tilley family (366 in my database so far). Lincolnshire link still very tenuous. How far back does your "lot" go?

Cheers Alan

The elder John Tilley you have is my 7x Gt Grandfather. I have him being born in the next village to Braceborough -Barholm - and thus his parents William and Alice. I don’t have any details on them nor the birth of the wife of John Tilley Senior - Susannah Yeelder. The Tilley line stayed in Braceborough for many years and still live nearby. I’ve plenty of that if needed for your part of the tree.

Just to stir the pot a bit...

I am a descendant of John Tilley (1571-1620) who was born in Bedfordshire.  He and his family came over to America in 1620 on the Mayflower.
