Could anyone help me find out what happened to William Harvey?
« on: Sunday 20 August 17 15:20 BST (UK) »
Before I go completely mad! I have very little to go on.

Williams birth is registered Dec quarter 1868, parents are William and Harriet, nee Thomas.

He is on the 1871 census as William R (no idea what the R stands for, I've never been able to turn up a baptism record for either William or sisters Kate, Mary or Margaret)

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V5B3-1FF

1881 - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q27X-VZ22 - again as William R

And finally 1891 - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:WBWD-92M

After that, I lose him. There are a few William Harvey's on subsequent census records, but I'm not convinced that are any are him. I've no idea whether he married (quite a few William Harvey marriage records, but again not sure whether any are the right William. Or whether he left the country.

Help!

Thanks
Lisa

? The only clue is William's occupation:  i.e. Clicker B

Clicker:

A: Foreman Printer, who looked after Typegraphy and layout
B: Shoemaker - cut leather
C: The Servant of a Salesman who stood at the door to invite in customers.

As his sisters were shoe machinists - William must have cut leather

? When the sister's married: who were the witnesses ?  as his mother by then was a Widow

? either William, or his sister would be responsible for looking after Harriet

1891 Census St George

27 Reformatory Road

HARVEY

Harriet - 60 - born Carmarthenshire
William 22 - Clicker, born St George, Gloucestershire
Kate - 20 - Shoe Machinist - born St George
Margaret 18 - ditto

---

Ancestry has:

William Robert HARVEY - christened: 15 March 1868 - Whitfield Tabernacle Independent Kingswood by Bristol (no parents given) will check for sisters.

---

? There is a William Robert HARVEY aged 44 on the 1911 census in Bristol (a Brush Maker) with his family  (but I don't think this is the correct family - from looking at a tree on Ancestry.  His baptism is also on Ancestry - but a few months later.

William Robert HARVEY : 26 July 1868, Bristol ST Mary Redcliffe, parents: Robert & Elizabeth Ann HARVEY

The Wiiliam Robert Harvey in the 1911 Census could be the William Robert baptised St Mary Redcliffe 26 July 1868 parents Robert and Elizabeth Ann. In which case he's not the chap we are after.

Clicker B is likely to be Boot Clicker?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boot_and_shoe_clicker

Giggsy

There were Boot and Shoemakers in the St Phillips area of Bristol, which is where the Tanneries were.
May be worth further research?

I did consider the brush maker, but researching the marriage gave that Williams father as Robert Harvey.

Mother Harriet dies in 1892.

I've just turned up a baptism for Kate at Two Mile Hill, Kingswood - parents Harriet and William.

Assume the baptism of William Robert HARVEY in 1868 at Whitfield Tabernacle - Kingswood (same area) is the correct William.

Dates a bit off though, if his birth is registered Dec qtr 1868 - it would have been an extremely late registration!

1871 census gives William's age as 2 and a half, so born Sept/ Oct in 1868, so not March baptism
