Strand Presbyterian Church Connsbrook Avenue SYDENHAM
« on: Sunday 20 August 17 15:43 BST (UK) »
Recently I purchased a second-hand book, which has a  presentation plate in the front cover which reads

Strand Presbyterian Church,
Connsbrook Avenue
Sydenham.

SABBATH SCHOOL
2nd PRIZE

Awarded to
Hubert Adams
For Attendance
10/4/14

Minister:
Rev. Thos. BYERS, B.A.

I have found a lot of information for Rev.Thos. Byers, but only
three Hubert Adams which do not seem to fit the bill.  Two being
Methodist, the third  a Presbyterian but would only have been 3years in 1914. Does anyone have any ideas?  I do not have any connection to the family.

Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambs, Middlesex, Oxfordshire, Sussex, Surrey, Kent.
Edinburgh, Kirkcaldy, Lochgelly.

I soon found the difficulties you are encountering

1910 could Hulbert have been the son or relative of Adam, Andrew, joiner, 281 Connsbrook Avenue near Ferndale st intersection
who lived there briefly in1910 see http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk/ccomplete1910_b.htm not there in 1908
1911 Irish census  18 in Beechwood Street (Pottinger (part of), Down) see http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie
Caswell   James   25   Male   Head of Family   Presbyterian   Co Armagh   Shop Assistant   Read and write yes both   -   Single   -   -   -   -
Adam   Andrew   48   Male   Brother in Law   Congregationalist   Scotland, Fifeshire   Joiner Shipyard   Read and write yes both   -   Married   -   8   2   1
Adam   Sarah   35   Female   Sister    [ie nee Caswell] nee Congregationalist   Co Armagh   -   Read and write yes both   -   Married   -   8   2   1
Adam   Agnes   5   Female   Niece[ ie Andrew’s daughter]   Congregationalist   Belfast   -   Cannot read   -   Single   -   -   -   -
did they have more children

then I tried
1911 census again
no wrong one at 1 in Ervey (Grogey, Fermanagh)

ancestryireland a credits purchase charity
HUBERT   ADAMS   1901   father ROBERT   Antrim looks good
then census 1911 again
6 in Henry Street (Dock Ward (Belfast Clifton), Antrim) a large boarding house for males
Adam   Robert   56   Male   Lodger   Presbyterian   Belfast City   Hackler   Read and write   -
oversea
a Robert Adam b1873 glasgow was a shipyard joiner in 1901 census son of Marjury Adam b 1842 Aberdeen, living in Old Kilpatrick Dunbartonshire

then I tried burials and finally came across https://ssl.belfastcity.gov.uk/burialsearch/
Name of deceased   John Bell Adam
Last place of residence   281 Connsbrook Ave
Age   2 Years
Sex
Date of death   21 October 1910
Date of burial   23 October 1910
Cemetery   Dundonald Cemetery
Grave section and number   C2 334
Burial Type   Earth Burial

Occupants of grave C2 334, Dundonald Cemetery
Forename   Surname   Age   Date of death   Date of burial   Cemetery
Sarah   Adam   79 Years   1 December 1954   3 December 1954   Dundonald Cemetery
Andrew Bell   Adam   67 Years   12 June 1936   15 June 1936   Dundonald Cemetery
John Bell   Adam   2 Years   21 October 1910   23 October 1910   Dundonald Cemetery

have run out of time can you stitch some of the above together further, but the father sname of Robert could be a stumbling block
Good luck

Hubert might be a nickname- I know a Hugh Robert known as Hubert. I also wouldn't rule out the one born in 1911- sometimes children were sent to school/Sabbath school at a very young age and the book is for 'attendance' rather than an academic achievement.

Have you considered contacting the church? I'm not sure what records survive but if the family stayed in the area he could be listed in Communicants' Roll or Sabbath School register.

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you both for your help. ( Will digest your suggestions.)

I did contact the Strand Presbyterian Church but so far have not had a reply.
If I do manage to solve the problem I will post further.

Once again thank you both for your time and effort.
