(Captain) Robert William Campbell
« on: Sunday 20 August 17 15:46 BST (UK) »
R W Campbell, who wrote The Kangaroo Marines in WW1 wrote that (sometime between 1900 and 1914) he lived in Australia and New Zealand and served on a Sydney paper and with the New Zealand Herald.  During his stay, he says he studied the Citizen Army.

I wonder if anyone can find details of what he did?

There is a good description here of  his time in Australia
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article135278565

Ros

adding : It's written by a literary journalist rather than a news journalist so descriptive rather than hard facts.
eg
He also served as a journalist in Sydney for a short time, doing the
"city rounds," with the "boys," and collecting from the lips of Premiers, secretaries and officers the news and gossip of the day
