David Turner Parish Record
« on: Sunday 20 August 17 22:58 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I'm looking into my tree on ancestry and gotten a bit stuck. I am looking for records on a David Turner believed to be born in 1830. I have found a parish baptism record from Lane End, Stafford, England saying that he was baptised on 27th September 1830. The only name attached to this record is a mothers name of Lydia. Can anybody help me track down anymore information on this record please?

All help much appreciated

Dom

Welcome to Rootschat. Unfortunately I can see that the records on Ancestry are just transcriptions and no images. The fact that just his mother's name is given probably means that he was illegitimate. Have you found him in the 1841 census? However the chances are that his mother may have married and he may be listed under that name.

No I have not been able to find any matching dates for records on either 1841 or 1851 census. I did think that he may have been illegitimate for the same reason of the mother's first name only on the record. I didn't know if there was any where that the original record may have been moved so that it could be seen to see if there is any more information on it. I will try searching Lydia on marriage records with maiden name of Turner and see what pops up.

What is the first record you have for him apart from the baptism?

In case you don't have it, this looks like his son's birth which gives Ann's maiden name

This is a bit of a long shot but

11.8.1832 St John the Baptist Burslem marriage of Benjamin Lockett to Lydia Turner both of the parish of Burslem
9.2.1837 St Johns Longton burial of Lydia Lockett aged 26 of Lanes end
23.9.1810 St Johns Longton baptism of Lydia Turner parents John and Charlotte

19.11.1826 St Johns Longton burial of Charlotte Turner aged 43 of Lane End

Still no sign of David though

That's a possible as Burslem and Longton (where David was baptised) are only about 7 miles apart I think. We really need to try and find David before his marriage in 1841 and 1851. If Lydia did marry and then die when David was only 7, he could be with family somewhere in 1841 or even in the workhouse. He obviously knew his surname was Turner though.
