Do you know when William emigrated to South Africa? I can't see him very readily in the 1891 census. Looks as if he & his father were already working on railways before he emigrated.

Hi, thanks for the census-  on the 1881 census William Ridley is living at Crook's Crossing with his sister Mary, he marries a few months later (18/6/1881) and the eldest daughter Mary Elizabeth is also born there, the eldest son John Thomas is born at Jubilee Colliery and the family arrive in South Africa 1885 on the SS Trojan and the rest is well documented.

Hi, I have been trying to put the family of John Ridley together and think I have found siblings:- William bap 5/1813 Hartburn
Mathew and Mary bap 27/8/1815 St John Lee both born 1815 Twins?
Ann bap 26/7/1818 St John Lee
Robert bap 1819 St John Lee
Jane bap 29/10/1820 St John Lee
JOHN bap 14/4/1821 St John Lee
Margaret bap 24/11/1822 St John Lee

Parents William and Mary.  I can only find one possible marriage in the right time and area for a William Ridley and a Mary Walton on 24/12/1813 Gateshead.  Could anyone try and look for any other marriage that would fit?  My concern is the place and also the first child was bap in May 1813?

My sister is in the UK and is going up to NBL, is it worth trying to look at parish records? If so how would you go about this?
