RootsChat newby here. ::)

Wondering if anyone has come across Rachel Thompson? (1851 and 1861 census says b Panfield Essex abt 1801). She marries Nehemiah Rogers in 1821 in Panfield (St Mary the Virgin). Died 1869 in Braintree.

I'm looking for a baptism record/parents' details.

Cheers

Had a good look but can't find any baptism for her in panfield or any of the surrounding parishes. Bit of an enigma. The marriage record says by licence. Both of them would have been minors, so the dob is right?

The children of Nehemiah and Rachel Rogers were baptized at the Independent Church in Braintree.
Found so far (familysearch)
Rachel Ann Rogers bap 15 January 1826
Eliza  bap 5 April 1829
James   bap 8 September 1822

So I would try the Independent churches in the area for Rachel baptism, I think there is one in Bocking.

Census results for Rachel:
1841 - 35yrs = b 1806
1851 - 50yrs = b 1801
1861 - 60yrs = b 1801

so more confident of 1-2 around 1801 than 1806.

A couple of children may have been born in Braintree.

Her husband (m. 1821 Panfield) Nehemiah Rogers was born in Sudbury.

Any ideas on where to check the Bocking independent registers?

The Independent Chapel, at Bocking End, adjoining Braintree

Do you know if this is available on-line? (I can't afford the 17,000km trip at the moment ;D)

Essex Record Office index (in Chelmsford Essex) says the records for the Congregational Church in Bocking are at the National Archives London.

They do have a diary that includes baptisms for Bocking, Braintree, Rayne and Felsted 1769-1801
Ref: D/DTa/F5.

Family search is gradually adding independent churches to its website but there are not many as yet.
Maybe check with your local Mormon Church and see if they can help, if they have the film perhaps it can be arranged for you to see a copy. Some films are available for viewing but only at their facilities.
