Martha Rainer - b c1801 Dalton Middlesex
« on: Monday 21 August 17 08:39 BST (UK) »
Seeking any help on birth/baptism/parents of Martha Rainer c1801 in Dalston. (I've also seen surname spelled Rayner, Raynor)

She marries George Linsell in 1822 in Braintree Essex and seems to return to London to Shoreditch by the 1851 census (aft George's death in 1844).

Thanks

It seems she can't make her mind up where she was born  ???

1841 living Essex whole family born Essex
1851 Martha a children Sophia, George & Cecilia all born Dalston, Middlesex as well as their mother

Youngest child actually born Essex, I presume the others could have been too  ::)

Don't know if this any help but
One of the witnesses to their wedding is Ruth Linsell

Also 1861 census shows a Celcilla Linsell living with her mother in Bethnal Green but the mother is stated as Sophia both born in Braintree. Celcilla marries in 1864 to Francis Roberts at Bethnal Green her father George and Osler

I have not found any baptisms in Braintree for Martha and George they may be non conformists or catholic

There are some baptisms at the Independent Chapel, Braintree
Starting with Eliza Linsell, 26 October 1823
Louisa Lynsell, 26 November 1826
Followed by Martha and Sarah

A death of a Martha Linsell in March qtr 1864, Bethnal Green.
Haven't found it on new death index for age.

Thanks All. I'm thinking the born in Dalston may be wrong.

I suspect the Rainers and Linsells were non-conforming, with the children baptised at the Braintree Independent. (Having said that, George and Martha were married at St Michael's CoE Braintree in 1822).

Are there any maps/lists showing where independent meeting places around Braintree might have been?
