Any thoughts on where else to look?
« on: Monday 21 August 17 17:49 BST (UK) »
Robert Kendall - possible variations on spelling!

Appears in Weston parish records as father to:

John – baptised 16 January 1747/8 – son of Robert Kendall of Askwith, Skinner
Robert - baptised 3 December 1749 - son of ----- ditto -----  buried 27 October 1750 -  ditto ----
Robert - baptised 17 April 1751 - son of ----- ditto -----
Francis – baptised 15 January 1754/5 – son of ----- ditto ----
Mary – baptised 1 January 1756/7 – daughter of ------- ditto ------

I cannot see a baptism, marriage or burial for Robert, the Skinner - parish records or BTs.  No sign either of marriage bond or will to match - I have subscriptions to FindMyPast and Ancestry.

Any help much appreciated.  Robert senior would be my 5 ggf.

Many thanks, I'll have a look for baptisms and/or burials.  Marriages at that time would have to be in C of E churches, so perhaps they were from outside Yorkshire  :-\ :-\

I thought a skinner worked in a tannery but apparently this occupation was a dealer in hides, which could have meant that he travelled to various markets to get prospective business.  There must have been local markets but the nearest one I found was the famous Beveley market which is about 50-ish miles away.

Marriages, and often the first births, are usually in the bride's family parish even if she had moved many miles away to work as a domestic servant.

I still use the outdated Hugh Wallis website and use those batch numbers on familysearch.org and I see that earlier church records for Weston parish still exist; also from Genuki I see that even earlier Bishop transcripts are available to view at the address given - maybe your ancestors are noted in the latter?

Interestingly, there's an 1743 Beverley marriage for a Robert Kendel to an Anne Lund whose father was Francis Lund.

Thanks Rena.  A possibility, but the entry does say that that Robert is a Shoemaker.  I will certainly bear it in mind though.

FindMyPast do have the images available for Weston - BT's.  I've also just looked using the forename of Robert and Robt and 1740 +/- 5 years for the Yorkshire BT's - nothing, except the Anne Lund marriage you found.

I've just been looking at Weston records again, and found this baptism for Elizabeth, daughter of Robert Kendall of Askwith ? baptised 21 September 1746.  Any ideas on Robert's occupation, please?
