Identification of Regiment
« on: Monday 21 August 17 22:35 BST (UK) »
I've just been sent this unidentified photo from a relation and wonder if anyone can tell what regiment he was in to perhaps narrow down who it is?

Thank you  :)

Thank you both for your quick replies, although it's not very clear it does look like that one doesn't it.

Will do a bit more digging to find any links with that regiment now!  :D

Many thanks

The website I looked at was quite specific!
I did think it was a little strange, but not having any evidence to the contrary, I simply copied what was written there?

Good morning,

With you KG, I don't know which website you looked at so have no idea what it showed you.

West Surreys were the 2nd foot so had 2 regular battalions, both with that cap badge. All TF and service battalions in WW1 wore the same badge.

The badge changed in 1959 when they amalgamated with the East Surreys to become Royal Surrey Regiment.

I got my info from here:
http://armylists.org.uk/badges2.htm

But I now see that they are concerned with Regimental Standards as well as badges! :-[

Mea culpa ;D

The same Queen's West Sureys badge was worn not only by the 2 Regular Battalions but also by the TF battalions (one battalion also had a black version 1908-15).  in addition the 22nd and 24th battalions of the London Regt wore this cap badge.
