Ellen Nagle
« on: Tuesday 22 August 17 10:04 BST (UK) »
I have found the probate details of my aunt Ellen Nagle (nee Devereaux) - died 20 Feb 1983 in Selsey, West Sussex.  Probate was granted 14 June 1983.

I can't find her death registered anywhere.  Is there a reason it wouldn't have been registered?

She was almost certainly a Roman Catholic, quite possibly born in Ireland.

Her husband was Garrett Nagle - 16 Oct 1915 (Co. Cork) to 29 Jun 1992 (Selsey).

They were married in 1937 and spent much of their married life in Ealing.

There is a Helen Nagle registered in 1983 in Ealing, but she is buried with John Nagle, another relative of mine, so I have ruled her out.

Thank you so much.

I'm pretty sure the Helen Nagle who died in Ealing is Ellen Mary Nagle who married John Nagle and they are buried together in Greenford Park cemetery.

I had discounted the Ellen Nagle from Surrey mainly because it was registered a bit too late, however, I have looked into her more carefully and am now pretty sure it's her - born 30th Aug 1912 in Listowel - I have found her family and in particular who I was sure was her sister because she married a 1st cousin of Ellen's husband.  Ellen's marriage certificate should arrive tomorrow, which I am sure will tie it all together.

The probate entry shows that she was 'of' 3 Netherton Close, Selsey - it does not give a place of death. The death would be registered in the area she died

FTR

In case you don't have - LINK to birth of
Ellen DEVEREAUX on Aug 30 1912 at Charles Street, Listowel
Father: Michael DEVEREAUX ; a Bank Porter (which could be checked on her marriage certificate)
Mother: Margaret O'CALLAGHAN
It is mistranscribed as DEVEREANNY

Michael (26), Margaret (22) and their son John (1½) are on the 1911 census - LINK

Michael DEVERAUX married Margaret O'CALLAGHAN Jun 12 1909 - LINK

Ellen had at least two three siblings
John Patrick DEVEROUX b Feb 26 1910 LINK
He married Mary POWER on Sept 18 1930 - LINK
I don't know if they had children but I believe that this is the death of Mary aged 25 on Sept 28 1934 - LINK

Margaret DEVEREAUX b Jun 30 1914 LINK

There is a possibility that this is another sister Bridget/Bridie who married Edward FLATHERTY on Jan 16 1934;
full age implies bc1913 or before - LINK
edited to add: Bridget DEVEREAUX b Aug 05 1911 - LINK

This is a death of Michael DEVEREAUX on Feb 7 1937; informant widow Margaret - this would require follow up as occupation and address has changed - LINK

This is all great, thank you very much.

I had some of this detail, but much of it is new to me.

Ellen Devereaux Nagle was my Great Great Aunt. Let me know if you require any other information on her. How are you related to her?
