John Boswood
« on: Wednesday 23 August 17 01:17 BST (UK) »
Good morning. I am new to the list, and am seeking help to find the pre-transportation history of my GGgrandfather and his birth family. John Boswood was transported to Tasmania in 1824 on the Chapman, where he later married Fanny Watts, who was transported in 1841. I have a lot of material on their subsequent family-building, but nothing on their lives before transportation other than Fanny's Old Bailey trial transcript. Documents I have sighted list him as coming from Kennsom and her as coming from Chobham, Surrey.

I've searched earlier posts and found material on this but nothing conclusive - I was wondering if anyone had made any progress on it in the years since the last posting? If so, I'd be very grateful to hear about it.

Thanks!

Can anyone confirm details of birth for John Boswood, transported on "Chapman" 1824. Married Fanny Watts in Oatlands, Tasmania in 1845. I have checked and have found a record of a John Boswood, baptised 17/2/1804, Castlemorton, Worcester. Father John, mother Sarah (Hartland)(marriage 1802).According to census John and Sarah resided in Gloucestershire.

[The above prisioners were all reprieved , except Jos Chick, who is to be executed Saturday, the 26 inst.]

Thank you so much to everyone who has joined the discussion to help. John's birth year is uncertain - it was given as 1803 when he arrived in Tasmania in 1824), but his death certificate in 1869 says he was then aged 78, which would make his birth year 1791! Fanny was born in around 1822 (her age when she arrived in Tasmania in 1841 was given as 19).

Many thanks, Ros, I've contacted that researcher and made myself known in hopes that he/she is also a relative of John Boswood. Thanks for the heads-up.
