Greene Thomas -m- Downey Agnes (1883 Antrim)
« on: Wednesday 23 August 17 16:13 BST (UK) »
Hi, my first post

I'm on the search for any family connections pre my Gt Grandfather, Thomas Greene(1895-62 labour) who married Agnes Downey (1890) in Antrim March 1883.  They had 7 children include; Isabella 1883/4, Mary 1885, Dorathea 1888, Thomas 1890, Samuel   1892/3, Elizabeth 1897, William 1899/0

Thomas may have worked on the Downey farm in OldStone, Grange of Muckamore. I can't find any trace of Thomas's birth or his parents.  He later became a railway porter and move to Belfast.

Recently I was told the 'Greene(e)' were originally part of Cromwell's Army 1641, many resided in Ireland having been given land, and over 6,000 eventually settled in Antrim.

Thanks Sinann,

I actually have this marriage cert; its Thomas Greene his father I can't find any trace of, who he married, died or any siblings. I wrote to the local Presbyterian church some time back but they could not find any trace in their records and their was nothing in PRONI, or at least their microfilms are so poor you can't be certain what the name is.

I believe it was not mandatory to register a birth until 1835.

There are Greene's in Glenavy and Lisburn but nothing that links my family.

Regards
Colin

Birth registration started 1864, so Thomas won't have a birth cert, a younger sibling might if you have any names.
