Minnie Cuming born 25 May 1860 was baptised 20 May 1872 at St Peter, Cranley Gardens (Bayswater).

Parents: Edward (a photographer) and Jane, of 161 Portobello Road.

I haven't been able to find a birth registration for Minnie - can anyone else? I'd wondered if Minnie was a pet name but she married Alexander Pennington by Licence on 5 Aug 1883 as Minnie Cuming and naming Edward Cuming, Cabman as her father.  Her address at marriage was 14 Bay Street, which is the same address as the 'Powell' family in 1881  :)

It looks as though the George Gell who married Jane Cosimini on 11 May 1856 may have been born 1838 in St Neots, Huntingdonshire (and living in Chelsea with his parents by 1851).

That would make him a very young bridegroom for Jane (not of "full age") as he claimed.  It looks as though they already had baby Jane Eliza on the way (baptised 7 months after the marriage) so perhaps the marriage, in Battersea, was a rush job in a parish where they were not well known.

I cannot easily see what happened to George after 1856.

In 1861 he's back with his parents - RG9/32/13/34

So he is (& recorded as unmarried).

I could of course be wrong about his being the relevant George.

At marriage, 11 May 1856:
George Gell, full age, clerk Somerset House, of Battersea.  Father: John Gell, butler.

Then George was a "store keeper, Thames Embankment" when Jane Eliza was baptised on 10 Dec 1856 (this could still be at Somerset House).

Re George b 1838 St Neots:

1851 Chelsea: 12, office boy, son of John, gardener.
1861 Chelsea: 22, auctioneer's porter, son of John, journeyman clothworker.

Hmmm ???

Spent a wasted weekend following up another Minnie, right birth year, who ended up in Australia with her family. If I could find the right Minnie's birth record I would have the mother's name and would have cracked it!
