1793 (ish) Scotland
« on: Wednesday 23 August 17 23:41 BST (UK) »
Looking for any information that might lead me to my 4x great grandfather, Alexander Cadenhead. I've just found his daughters baptism record that says he is deceased before she is even born. She was baptised (in Aberdeen) 17 June 1794 so he died any time in the 9 months (give it take...) leading up to her birth.
His wife never married again although I can't find any marriage details for them, she still has his surname on her death certificate (she died age 99, hope I've got her genes!!)

Anyway, on his wife's death cert is says he was a 'ship sailor, merchant service'

I can't find any death details for him and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me (or point me in the right direction) what would the Merchant Services be used for at this time and is there anywhere I can see if he died while 'on duty'

Many thanks for any suggestions!

Hi Annie,

Alexanders daughter (Janet - sometimes Jessie - Cadenhead) was born 1794 in Aberdeen. His wife was Janet (sometimes Jessie) Nicol (b. 1760, d 1859), also from Aberdeen so I am presuming he is from Aberdeen too...

Possible Will although I'm unsure if the date has to do with when it was made official rather than the date of death?

Cadenhead Alexander
24/10/1794
shipmaster in Aberdeen
TD&I (I'm unsure what the letters mean)?
Aberdeen Commissary Court
CC1/6/57

According to..

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01kks/

TDI means "Single Administrative Document"  ???

Not sure how much help that would be regarding a wife etc?

I had never heard of or seen this in the 'Wills' section before  ::)
