coastguard in 1840s Birling Gap

Hi I am researching an ancestor Duncan McInnes/McInnis/McInnish,  born in Scotland but served with The coastguard in England.  He is listed in 1841 census at Birling Gap with his family, and may have also served in Sholden,Kent as he has a daughter born there in 1833.  He had children born in Sussex in 1837 and 1841 at least. He returned to Scotland at some point and died of a fever in Newhaven in May 1848.  I have searched on the Genuki coastguards site but he isn't listed there.  I would like to know where he was born and date of birth if possible and any further information there is or how to find it.  I have had a look at the TNA stuff on Line but not sure where to start to find details on personnel.
On his death record he is called up as a seaman (C.G.S) which I assume is also coast guard service.

Any pointers gratefully received, I am in New Zealand so searching archives difficult.

In the 1841 it says he was born 1803 Scotland, found 3 possibilities ...

Duncan McInnes. 1803 Glasgow,Lanark,Scotland. father Donald McInnes. mother Isobel McLardie.
Duncan McInnes. 1802 TOROSAY,ARGYLL,SCOTLAND. father Hugh McInnes. mother Anne McArthur.
Duncan McInnes. 1804 KILFINICHEN AND KILVICKEON,ARGYLL,SCOTLAND. father John McInnes. mother Ann McQuarie.

If he was Scottish he may well have followed their quite strict naming pattern for his children so looking at their names may help discover his parents' names.
Scotlands people is a good site.
Getting a birth certificate for Mary, the youngest child, in 1841 should give his wife's maiden name and will help find his marriage.

I can't read the reason for his dismissal - it's quite cramped writing, but I fear the word 'negligently' is included.  I think there was a Court of Enquiry as well.

The Nominations don't include any information about age or parentage.

Getting a birth certificate for Mary, the youngest child, in 1841 should give his wife's maiden name and will help find his marriage.

If you can find her birth on the GRO site, that should give mother's maiden name without having to get a certificate.

I have wife/wedding details I believe married 1826 in Newhaven, her maiden name Ramsay first name Marion, they are a Newhaven fishing family as are many of my ancestors.  I can trace her family back but having trouble with Duncan, as there are several possibilities for a Duncan McInnes around that date of birth throughout Scotland. Looking at Maning tradition hasn't helped either... Was hoping coastguard records could help with more detail on birth date/place. Still Interesting to see the detail on his service records, thanks for that!

I have searched on the Genuki coastguards site but he isn't listed there.

He is there, but since the name on the page is across one of the column lines, it has been read as possibly McKinnon 

Later census of 1851 doesn't help much either, just in case there were any of Duncan's relatives in the household, but they all seem to be Ramsay brothers etc.
