George LINGARD, born c1844, Preston, Lancashire

Hello,

In 1857 George LINGARD, then serving a prison sentence until January 1861, stated his mother was Mary LINGARD, living in Queens Street, Preston, although he had been seemingly living in Salter Street, Preston.   I have failed to find any reference to a Mary LINGARD, only a Widow Margaret LINGARD in the 1851 England Census......her husband was Robert LINGARD recorded on the 1844 baptismal records for a George LINGARD, if that entry is for the correct George.

Is it possible Margaret was Mary, or vice versa, and that records could have been incorrectly transcribed!!!

Any help would be appreciated.

There are two baptisms in 1844 for a George, the other was George Towers Lingard - parents: Robert & Mary.

I think "heywood" has confirmed his mother was Mary and that he was born in 1844........excellent research!!thank you.    Now to establish his whereabouts from 1861 onwards

Of the two b Preston c1844,  one is missing after 1861. Here's the other in Kirkland, Westmorland - wife is Eleanor Holiday, married in Q4 1863. All born Kendal except where shown

Thank you..........I have now uncovered him in 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901.   

1861 is a little questionable but the appearance of the "Gregory" name seems to tie in somehow with the 1851 Census.   1911 and his date of death are the only outstanding items.

The one posted by Mabel is in Westmorland in 1861 whilst yours is with the Gregorys.

I haven't followed through all censuses but I think yours is the one who is missing.

I see there is a published tree which has George married to Eleanor as the one with mother Mary but I am not sure at all. The tree doesn't show the marriage details.
