Mrs. Mary Maria Humphries
« on: Thursday 24 August 17 23:25 BST (UK) »
Hello, Ive been set an enormous task. The lady named above is my daughter in laws grandmother. Mary was b. in Morrison Swansea in 21-12-1891. Her maiden name was Huzzey.
Here's the problem. Mary it seems has quite a number of journeys over to Dieppe 22nd Aug 1955.
To Suisse 23rd Aug 1955.Again to Dieppe 12th Sept 1955. Bardone CCHIA.31ST AUG 1955.There are 17 other countries she visited up until her passport states that Mary may have unlimited travel into United States of America up until 22nd Oct 1962.
When Mary settled down in Newport she purchased quite a few houses.
Her granddaughter is mystified by all the traveling. And the amount of money the lady had. Suggesting Grandmother may have been a spy! I would be so grateful for clear views on this subject.

By 1955 she was 64yrs old so very much doubt she was a spy!!

She may have had friends abroad - who knows?  She may have inherited money hence the property purchase.

When did her husband Charles die?  Did he leave an estate

I think it just shows that she and her husband were reasonably well off and liked holidays?

Dieppe is a ferry port; so an entry point into France. Ferries from Newhaven.
Bardonecchia is a border town in northern Italy; at the end of the Frejus  Road & Rail Tunnels. So, an entry point into Italy.
Suisse is, of course, Switzerland.

Looking at the dates, it looks to me as, as KG says, that they were just holiday trips. Have you tried plotting them in date order, on a map? If she was a spy, I doubt if she'd be travelling under her own name and getting her passport stamped everywhere.  ;D
