There was a tree on Ancestry that I no longer have a sub to.

QLD BDM has

John Hermann Phillips (snr) died 1946/B3792 parents Bernard and Mary Bown (should be Bowen)

John Herman Phillips died 1982/4397 parents John Herman Aloysius Phillips and Mary Jane Emma Monteath

Have you checked surnames interest board at bottom of page?

John Herman (Snr) date of death is  18 March 1946 and the B indicates he died in Brisbane.
John Hermann (?Jnr) date of death is 9th June 1982.  Not sure when Qld BDM stopped putting B or C in the reg. #.

I hope to go to State Library Queensland some time this coming week (commencing Monday 28/8/17) and will try to have a look at back issues of the Courier-Mail to see if there is a notice for either one.
If we find one, you could then use the Ask a Librarian service of SLQ to ask them to look at electoral rolls.

Another suggestion is that you email the editor for QFHS (editor[at]qfhs.org.au - substitute @ for at) with your reunion notice and ask for it to be published in their journal.  Closing date for November 2017 jnl is 15 September and for Feb 2018 is 15 December.  No charge for reunion notices.
