On the Valuation Rolls, there are quite a few names listed for that address, but most just give the address as Glasgow, without naming the district.      Here is a list, showing only one for Govan & Gorbals: Francis Keegan.      The district of all the others could only be found out by opening the Val record for two credits.

1905 Valuation records:
John Caldwell
Francis Keegan Govan & Gorbals
William McLeod
Robert Mahon.
Shop Govan & Gorbals   [No owners name for this one - seems like it is empty]

1915
William Elton
John Blease
Agnes McGovern
Robert Speirs
Jacob Stern Govan
Patrick Wheatley H
House and Shop    [No name given - seems like it is empty]
House                   [Ditto the above]
House                   [Ditto the above]

Looks like several premises with either an unknown owner, or maybe abandoned.     ...Are any of the above names familiar to you?

What family names are you researching in that area?

Schechowitz (various spelling variations), Mail, Goldberg, Kapiet (and spelling variations such as Kaput), and Weinbloom.

I have 25+ family members who moved to Glasgow from Odessa around 1906 or 1907 and all were gone by 1913 (and some as early as 1909). There were the Schechowitz parents, and then their four adult children and their families, as well as a nephew, for a total of six family groups. I have four of the families (Mail, Goldberg, Kapiet, Weinbloom) on the 1911 census but the two sets of Schechowitz families had left for the US before then.

I found the naturalization records for one of the Mails. He lived with the Goldbergs and the Weinblooms in the Gorbals before he got married and moved into his own place in 1911. The other address, on Main Street, is not known to me. It may have belonged to one of the Schechowitz families.

I have always wondered, though, if there were other family members who may have stayed in Glasgow that I am not aware of, which is why I am interested in researching this address. I am almost certain that it would be in the Gorbals because that is where the other families lived and they always lived near each other in later years.

What were the names of the Schechowitz family?

Have you found any? There was Morris/Moses, Clara/Chaje, Barnett/Barney, Abraham and Rose.

I would be interested in anyone with this name or variations who were in Glasgow at that time.

I know all of the names of the family members that emigrated to the US, but I think it's entirely possible that some stayed in Glasgow (the Mail part of the family did). It's difficult because if they had other daughters I have no way of knowing their married names.

I have all of the emigration records for the ones that went to the US (including the one above) and all of their US records. It's the ones that didn't go to the US that I am interested in. I will investigate Morris Louis and see if he has any relation.
