Logie Pert (Angus)

Died a spinster as there's no matching ref. for another surname.

Thanks, both, you have hacked it. Pretty certain Betty/Betsy has to be William Wyllie and Jean Christison's daughter. The 1861 includes a daughter Dianah Smith, which is the clincher.

I was misled by another George Smith in Brechin with a wife named Jean/Jane of the right age.

Edit .... Yes, she is Betsy Grant Wyllie, wife of James Rodger. Her marriage certificate gives her parents as William Wyllie, farm servant, deceased, and Jean Smith maiden surname Christison.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Just to finish off probate record gives a death date of 13 May 1919 Kirriemuir for
Betsy Grant Wyllie Rodger ....Well done Annie for finding her on the 1851 census that has led to this

I was misled by another George Smith in Brechin with a wife named Jean/Jane of the right age.

Oh yes, I had to recheck on that one too!

Glad it's solved & another loose end tied up  ;D
