When Francis McGartland was born in 1871, one of his sponsors were John McGartland. Is it safe to assume that this would be an uncle?

If the baptism was a Roman Catholic one all you can assume is that the person was aged approx12/13 or older i.e. confirmed.

If there is an older borther, cousin or other John McGARTLAND it may well be him also
