Eliza Harding death record
« on: Sunday 27 August 17 17:36 BST (UK) »
Hello,

The woman concerned is my 3x great-grandmother. She married first a Harding, and then a Goddard. After the death of her second husband, she uses her first married name, Harding/Harden. She was born in Yorkshire, to parents from Shropshire, and probably grew up in Staffordshire with the rest of her siblings. She writes nearby Woodseaves as her birthplace in 1881 (close to where the family lived), and in 1901 is a Harden, writing NK (not known, as she wasn't certain), Staffordshire. I am fairly certain this is her, as the d.o.b. is accurate too, and she had been living just over the border in Essex, and in 1901, is in West Ham, as a boarded. Can anyone discover what became of her?

Thanks,

Adam McGregor

You say the date-of-birth is accurate, yet don't relay what age /date that was.

Where did her kids end up? Looked around & about where they are?

Born in 1840. Two of her daughters disappear. One son is working in North Essex, as a laundryman. Not sure about any elder sons.

Which was when - and where?

Have you looked for her in 1911?  If she is not found then have you searched for a death between 1901-1911 given she was born 1840

Her husband died in 1891, in Boreham, Essex. I have been unable to find her in 1911, and I can't find a death record between 1901 and 1911.

Born Stockton, married Harding/Harden, married Goddard, and appears to have gone back to Harden after the death of her second husband.

Sorry, but there just isn't enough specific information on the thread for Rootschatters to be able to identify the relevant Eliza with any confidence (other than the isolated 1901 census entry which doesn't take matters much further).  If we don't have all the information you do know, it is very hard to help you find the information you don't know.

Is the following your "Eliza"?

Elizabeth Stockton, born 27 Feb 1840 and baptised 3 March 1840 at Luddenden, West Yorkshire, parents Henry (navigator) and Sarah, of Midgley.

Nov 20 1882, All Saints, Battle Bridge, Islington

Marriage of William Goddard, 39, wid, farm bailiff, to Elizabeth Harding, 39, widow, dau of Henry Stockton (decd), contractor.

[Death of William Goddard aged 46, Dec qtr 1891 Chelmsford].

Yes, that's her. Sorry if I'm not helping. This woman has caused me a lot of trouble, what with her varying birthplace, 2 marriages and sudden disappearance.
