1911 census - LINK
Is this him and his wife and family?

As this then looks like his marriage to Bridget DALTON on Oct 13 1901 - LINK

The birth records of six children - LINK

What type of information are you looking for?

it is possible that this is his birth in India - LINK
This child was baptised in Dum Dum, Bengal on Sept 29 1881

editted to add
This Joseph CONWAY joined the Royal Irish Regt 5th Batt in 1897 giving place of birth as Dum Dum, Bengal and present address as Killahy, Tullaroan, Kilkenny; he was discharged as medically unfit a short time later.

and that this is his sister Mary - LINK #398
noting mother's name is Mary nee DUNN but requires further confirmation

The Connaught Rangers number is a 1920 7 digit number which would mean his record is still with MOD.
https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records

His Great War service was first with the Royal Irish Regiment, his number suggests a regular enlistment, and then the MGC from which he went on the Class Z Reserve in Feb 1919.  He would then seem to have rejoined.  His detailed records are not on line.

1901 census for Joseph CONWAY - LINK
noting the transcription is incorrect for place names

Joseph CONWAY m Johanna O'DONOHOE on April 10 1893 - LINK
He is described as a bachelor however the children listed are older than the marriage
i.e. they were married 8 years in 1901 but Joseph was aged 19

I think that Joseph was married twice and that his first wife was Mary Anne DUNN(E) although I cannot find a marriage

edited to add

Joseph CONWAY married Mary Ann DUNN in Dum Dum, Bengal on Oct 28 1880 according to his military records

He joined the 86th Foot in July 1869 aged 18y and 3m (implies born c1851) reg#1605
He is shown as born in Abbeyleix, Queens County (Laois)
He transferred to the South Wales Borders in Feb 1890 - reg#1172
His pensions admission was in Mar/Apr 1893

This is Joseph CONWAY Snr with his second family on the 1911 census - LINK
at house 8 in Robinson's Lane (Waterford No. 3 Urban, Waterford)

As the question of number of children referred to the woman, there is no reference to the children of the first marriage

He died Nov 09 1919 in Waterford - LINK #192

Joseph CONWAY Jnr married for a second time on Apr 25 1925 in Carrick-on-suir to Margaret O'DONNELL - LINK
His first wife died on Sept 29 1921 - LINK

Joseph Conway junior that myluck cites is a good fit for the Connaught Ranger man whose medal records you have and whose records are still with MOD. By the time of his marriage in 1925 however, he has left the British Army and joined the Free State Army.  He doesn't come up in the 1922 Irish Army census but that may mean he joined after then.  Presumably this is the route for those records

Thank you all for your replies, this is a wealth of information. I am going to apply to the MOD to see if they have his records.

Mary Ann DUNN(E) would have been born c1860 or before.
The army record shows they married in Dum Dum, Bengal and gives no reference to her father or any previous marriage.
It is possible that she was born in India but not necessarily so; she was most likely the daughter of someone serving in India.

The 1911 census states that Joseph CONWAY senior and his second wife Johanna (O')DONOHUE had 10 children all of which are accounted for between the 1901 and 1911 census returns; all born in Ireland
Dec 25 1894 Christina b. Kilkenny
May 27 1895 Patrick  b. Kilkenny
Fen 18 1897 Catherine  b. Giresbridge, Kilkenny; registered in Thomastown
Mar 06 1899 Johanna b. Kilkenny
Aug 15 1900 Maria/Mary  b. Kilkenny
Aug 16 1902 John b. Waterford
Sept 10 1904 Bridget b. Waterford
Aug 21 1906 Thomas b. Waterford
Apr 02 1908 Michael b. Waterford
Mar 22 1910 Hanora b. Waterford

The children of the first marriage i.e. Mother Mary Anne DUNN(E) are only listed together on the 1901 census; however they help give a timeline
Sep 16 1881 Joseph b. India
Oct 18 1884 Mary Anne b. Kilkenny
c1887 Margaret b. Dublin (I cannot see a civil reference or baptism online)
Dec 18 1890 William b. Allahabad, India

Mary Ann CONWAY nee DUNN(E) must have died between the birth of William in 1890 in India and before Apr 10 1893 when Joseph remarried in Kilkenny. Her death could have occurred in either location or indeed in transit between the two.  Joseph's army record shows he left India on HMS Malabar arriving in Gosport in Feb 1893 before being discharged in Mar 1893.

Joseph did describe himself as a bachelor at the time of the second marriage so I would keep an open mind that Mary Ann may not have been deceased.  Stranger things have happened but in light of his children continuing to live with him I would presume that Mary Ann died during 1893 as she is still listed on his army record at the time of his discharge as his next of kin.

In 1894 Joseph CONWAY joined the 5th Batt Royal Irish Regiment - service #1799
He described himself as married with two boys and two girls and that he had served 23years and 259days in the S.W.Borderers. He joined in Kilkenny stating he was born in Abbeyleix and aged 42.  He left again a short time later. Unfortunately his wife and children are not named but two boys and two girls tie in with the names on the 1901 census.
