Exact marriage places
« on: Sunday 27 August 17 21:01 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Can anyone find for me the exact place of marriage for the following couples:

George Thorogood and Emily Graves, married 1887, Dunmow, Essex

James W. Harding and Sarah B. Wyatt, married 1867, North Aylesford, Kent

Thanks,

Adam

The parish registers might be held at the county archives .....if they married in a church. Register Office books are not available and the certificate must be bought.

Any idea in which Parish the 1887 Essex marriage may have taken place? Dunmow registration District for that time frame has 27 parish registers that would need to be searched.

I have looked at Great and Little Dunmow Parish Marriages but it does not appear there so that leaves 25 to search.

Something to consider.......Could they have been non conformists?

Dec 1887 Dunmow 4a 941
Graves, Emily
Thorogood, George

941 is the first page of marriages for Dunmow that quarter. So it will be in a parish church, either the first or nearly the first in the running order. Not every parish had a marriage in any particular quarter.
Hopefully, the running order may have been alphabetical by parish, a list is here
http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/districts/dunmow.html

The North Aylesford marriage also looks like it might have been in a parish church. If so, you might be able to find it and see the image via Cityark
http://cityark.medway.gov.uk

But the site has been having problems recently and is down at the moment (well it is for me!)

The North  Alyesford marriage in 1867 was at All Saints Frindsbury

Unfortunately the Marrage Locator does not show the information for the Dunmow marriage in 1887.

In 1881 an Emily Graves age 14 born Ashdon Essex, was a servant in Little Bardfield. Her parents Charles and Hannah born Radwinter Essex were living in Great Bardfield. I suggest therefore that providing this is the same Emily, she probably married in Great or possibly Little Bardfield. Seax will hold that record.

Bear in mind that Little Bardfield, say, will probably be Bardfield, Little for running list purposes.
Hopefully, wherever the marriage was, someone will look on SEAX

Frindsbury is on cityark. You will have to wait until the site is up and running again!

Thanks for all the information! I'll look over it again for the second marriage.
